Sheffield Assay Office steps up for Master Cutler's Challenge 2025

Sheffield Assay Office, a cornerstone of Sheffield's heritage since 1773, has proudly announced that they are supporting Sheffield Hospitals Charity by taking part in the Master Cutler’s Challenge 2025.

Under the leadership of Assay Master and Chief Executive Ashley Carson, the team is set to embark on a 15.5-mile fundraising walk on Friday, 23rd May. The route will traverse the scenic landscapes of Derwent, Howden and Ladybower Reservoirs, and the historic Lost Villages Trail - covering 15.5 miles in total. Each staff member has personally contributed to participate, with all donations going towards the Office's £3000 fundraising target. Those taking part are now seeking further sponsorships from customers and trade to help them reach their target.

Ashley Carson shared his personal motivation for taking part in the challenge:

"Sheffield Assay Office and its staff are delighted to be taking part in the Master Cutler’s Challenge, 2025. For me personally, I have experienced dementia in the family, and I am really pleased to see this year’s Master Cutler supporting Sheffield Hospitals Charity, supporting dementia work. It is also a great opportunity for staff to come together and, as well as taking advantage of the beautiful surroundings of Ladybower, take time out to have a relaxing day together. I would also encourage all those companies who have not yet signed up to do so."

The Master Cutler’s Challenge, an initiative from The Company of Cutlers in Hallamshire, aims to be South Yorkshire's biggest fundraising challenge, and unites businesses and organisations in fundraising efforts for local charities. This year, Sheffield Hospitals Charity are thrilled to have been chosen as the Master Cutler's charity, and are fundraising with a focus on crucial projects that will help people live better with dementia.

Sheffield Assay Office's participation is reflective of its longstanding values of integrity and support for Sheffield's community. Beyond its renowned hallmarking services, the office offers a range of analytical services. The charity is honoured that they have chosen to support this year's Master Cutler's Challenge through their fundraising.
